MI Imager

In order to perform PMI (Positive Material Identification) one has to locate the position of the weld under the insulation. One inexpensive and quick manner to achieve this is by using the MI Imager X-Ray realtime imaging device. These pictures show the device on a 36” pipe with 5.50” of insulation. The device is simple to operate,and has a minimum safety requirement.

Technique

MII Scanner

The technique uses a 120Kv. X-Ray source and a CCD camera to image the profile of the weld under insulation. This enables the operator to mark the surface of the insulation within 0.25” of the center of the weld. The technique has also been shown to be extremely accurate in measuring the width of corrosion under insulation.
